Researching or Investigating

When life is going great many of us have very little thoughts of God or church. But when life starts to get messy, it makes us aware of the need for someone or something bigger, wiser, and more powerful than we are. Actually God designed us this way.  Sometimes without life getting messy we are able to drown out the interruptions of life to feel the desire to connect with God.  The stage of researching or investigating is when you have just starting looking for a place to find your way back to God. Today for most people this involves searching on the internet. It may even be why you found this blog.

Visiting or Prospecting

This stage is when you have done all you can over the internet and asking friends and you have to just bite the bullet and physically visit. This can be the biggest barrier to connecting with a church and finding your way back to God. Fortunately, many churches now provide ways for you to check them out in ways that are not so threatening. Obviously you can listen to messages on line, check out the Facebook and social media pages, but nothing is like walking through the doors. At MyChurch we offer a new comers tour. This tour occurs before our first service ends and before the second service starts. During this time you can tour our facility and see the areas that matter most to you which takes about 15 minutes. You can ask one of our great guides all the questions you want. Then at the end of the tour, you can stay and and get to know people during the break between services or you can quietly leave without being exposed to the crowds. Other churches offer other ways as well.

Getting Engaged

In the final stage, you have probably visited several churches and found one that feels right to you. You start attending regularly and even recognizing some of the faces. It will start to feel like home.  This is when your path to finding your way back to God can really begin.  God created us as social creatures, even the introverts, and as we begin to find our way, we will also find our place.  The sooner you can connect and serve the better your journey will be.  Most churches offer many ways to get involved. At MyChurch we have what we call an “on boarding process.”  We help you slowly get your feet wet until you find the place that is just right for you.

What if your relationship with God is good, but you just need a place to serve and grow? That is definitely another stage of life but I like to think of it more like a season than a stage.  As we grow and mature in our faith walk, God may send us to different places to serve Him. Our role is to help guide those on their journey back to God.
