Church On The Trail chooses to major on the essential beliefs (like Jesus is God’s Son), minor on the non-essential beliefs (like wearing flip-flops to church offends people) and always err on the side of grace. While we will try some pretty crazy methods to connect with people who are far from God, we actually hold fast to many traditional Christian beliefs (at least the essential ones).

THE BIBLE – GOD WROTE A BOOK

The Bible is God’s Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives. TRINITY - THREE IN ONE GOD

God has existed in relationship with Himself for all eternity. He exists as one substance in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Although each member of the Trinity serves different functions, they each possess equal power and authority. THE FATHER - GOD IS GREAT, GOD IS GOOD

God is great: He is all powerful, all knowing, ever present, unchanging, completely worthy of our trust, and above all, holy. It is in Him that we live, move and exist. God is good: He is our Father. He is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises. THE SON - GOD BECAME MAN

Jesus Christ is completely human, but at the same time completely God. He is the only plan for bringing people back into a right relationship with God. He lived a perfect life, so that He could be a substitution for us in satisfying God’s demands for perfection. He defeated death in His resurrection so that we could have life. He is coming again! THE HOLY SPIRIT – GOD IS ALWAYS PRESENT

He comes to dwell within every believer at the point of salvation. His presence assures us of our relationship with Christ. He guides believers into all truth, and exalts Christ. He convicts people of their sin, comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, and makes us more like Christ. ETERNITY - I'M SOMEWHERE FOREVER

Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. (John 3:16, 36; Romans 6:23; 1 John 2:25; 5:11-13;Revelation 20:15)

MAN - GODS IMAGE BEARERS

Man is made in the image of God and is the supreme object of His creation. Man was created to have a relationship with God, but became separated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, man cannot attain a right relationship with God through his own effort. Every human personality is uniquely created, possesses dignity, and is worthy of respect and Christian love. SALVATION - GOD'S ONLY WAY

The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. Salvation is a gift from God and it cannot be earned through our own efforts. Because it is not based on our own merit, it cannot be “lost” by our deeds either. THE CHURCH - GOD'S DESIGN FOR COMMUNITY

The church is a local community of baptized believers unified through faith in Christ. It is committed to the teachings of Christ, to obeying all of His commands, and it seeks to bring the gospel to the world. The Church works together in love and unity, intent on the ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ. THE SOCIAL ORDER

In the spirit of Christ, Christians should oppose racism, every form of greed, selfishness, and vice, and all forms of sexual immorality, including adultery, homosexuality, and pornography. We should work to provide for the orphaned, the needy, the abused, the aged, the helpless, and the sick. We should speak on behalf of the unborn and contend for the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death. THE FAMILY

God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption.

Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God's unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards, and the means for procreation of the human race.

Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. Parents are to demonstrate to their children God's pattern for marriage. Parents are to teach their children spiritual and moral values and to lead them, through consistent lifestyle example and loving discipline, to make choices based on biblical truth. Children are to honor and obey their parents.
